PERCEPTION OF UNDERGRADUATE DENTISTRY STUDENTS REGARDING THE CONTRIBUTIONS OF AN ACADEMIC LEAGUE IN THE FIELD OF SURGERY

Academic Leagues (ALs) are student-led organizations that operate under the supervision of faculty members affiliated with educational institutions, aiming to enhance learning in specific fields and foster the development of skills acquired during undergraduate training. This study aimed to investigate the perceptions and experiences of members of the Academic League of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Implantology - LACI at the University Center of Santa Fé do Sul - Unifunec, as well as to evaluate the league’s contributions to dental education. To this end, 45 Laci-Unifunec student members were invited to complete an online questionnaire composed of multiple-choice questions. The data collected were organized, and relative frequencies were described for each item. The study was approved by the Unifunec Research Ethics Committee. A total of 33 students responded to the questionnaire, most of whom were in their 9th semester and had been affiliated with the league for one to two years. The majority reported feeling more engaged and confident in the fields of Surgery and Implantology, believing that participation in Laci-Unifunec enhanced their academic performance and curriculum. Respondents rated the league’s activities between 9 and 10 and expressed a desire to remain involved in the project. These findings suggest that Laci-Unifunec plays a fundamental role in the academic and professional development of undergraduate dentistry students, as recognized by the participants themselves.
