Composite resin (CR) is widely used in dentistry due to its ability to mimic dental characteristics and allow for conservative tooth preparations. Its effectiveness depends on adequate polymerization, which is performed using light-curing units, particularly those based on light-emitting diode (LED) technology, which emit light with lower heat generation and greater efficiency. The output power of light-curing units is crucial for the success of restorative procedures, as it directly affects the degree of conversion achieved by LED light-curing devices. Improperly calibrated equipment may compromise dental treatments, leading to failures such as fractures and recurrent caries. This study aimed to evaluate the calibration of LED light-curing units used in dental clinics in Santa Fé do Sul, São Paulo (SP), and the surrounding region, in order to verify whether they meet the output power standards recommended by manufacturers. Power output measurements were collected from 80 light-curing units in several cities, including Santa Fé do Sul (SP), Ilha Solteira (SP), Aparecida do Taboado (MS), and Santa Albertina (SP), using a radiometer to determine the actual output power of each device. The measurements were compared with the nominal power values provided by the manufacturers. The analysis showed that 57.5% of the evaluated light-curing units met the minimum required parameters (above 400 mW/cm²), whereas 42.5% exhibited output power below this standard. Devices older than five years were more likely to present substandard output compared with devices with up to one year of use. None of the devices demonstrated output power exactly matching the nominal values specified by the manufacturers. The study concludes that most light-curing units in the region do not meet the recommended output power parameters, highlighting the need for more rigorous calibration and maintenance to ensure the effectiveness of dental treatments.
